See Your Doctor

Please Note that patients are seen at the surgery by appointment only. You are free to attend any of the doctors irrespective of whom the doctor you are registered with as named on your medical card. All of the doctors are available every day of the week except for Dr Wardell who does not consult on a Tuesday and Wednesday. All patients who need to be seen on an urgent basis will be seen that day, although not necessarily by his or her own doctor. Please reserve these requests for matters which cannot wait for a routine appointment.

Appointments System

The surgery is open from 7.45am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 6pm (5.30pm on Fridays). Morning appointments are normally from 8.30 am to 10.30 am and 11am to 12.20 pm and most times in the afternoon.  We aim to see all patients who require an urgent appointment on the same day. We aim to allow patients to see a doctor within forty eight hours for most routine appointments and to see the doctor of their choice within seven working days except for sickness and holiday absence.

Would patients please note that an appointment is for consultation for one person and about one condition only.  If you are concerned that you may require more than the allocated time for your problem(s) then please ask to speak to the receptionists who may be able to arrange additional time for you.

Failure to Keep/Cancel Appointments

On Average 116 patients do not keep or cancel their appointments every week. This leads to delays in other patients receiving appointments and appropriate treatment.  If an appointment is no longer required then patients should ensure that this is cancelled.  Patients who continually fail to keep or cancel appointments will be removed from our list.

For appointments please telephone  0844 477 8549 Option 2

Practice Nurse Appointments

Our practice nurses are available by appointment every day of the week.  These can be booked directly by patients themselves using the normal systems i.e. by telephoning the appointments number (0844 477 8549) or making the request in person at the front desk.

Home Visits

Requests for non-urgent visits should be made before 10am Patients are expected to come to the surgery if at all possible as there is a better range of facilities available on the premises.

Emergency Calls

1)  In surgery hours please telephone 0844 477 8549 and press 1 when first connected to indicate you have a Medical Emergency you will then be answered quickly by a member of staff.

2) Outwith surgery hours(after 5.30 pm and at weekends) NHS 24 provide a service for us.  They can be contacted by telephoning 08454 24 24 24.  During these hours this number is also publicised on the answering machine on the usual surgery number (0844 477 8549)

Triaging

Requests for home visits and emergency appointments for that day will be triaged by one of our practice nursing team. The use of triaging allows us to prioritise visits and make most effective use of our existing appointments.

Community Midwife

The practice has two attached community midwives

Advice

General advice about problems can be obtained form one of our experienced nurses. The nurse may call you back when she is free.

There is a doctor also available for general advice in the morning normally between 10.10 am to 10.30 am and in the afternoon from 3.10 pm to 3.30pm They can be contacted by phoning the normal surgery number 0844 477 8549 at that time and asking for the advice doctor.

The practice also operates a system of telephone consultations with GP's and these can be booked in advance like other appointments.  The doctor will phone you back around the time you have arranged when making the appointment.

 Repeat Prescriptions

Regular repeat prescriptions are now computerised.  If your doctor wishes you to have regular medication on a repeat basis then they will arrange for the items to be entered on the computer system.  Your repeat prescription request will normally be processed within 48 hours so please contact us with your request in advance.

You can order your repeat prescription by telephone, fax, Patient Online Services, post, calling into the surgery in person or by placing your request in the prescription box located on the outside of the building.  Most local pharmacies now provide a prescription collection service which not only benefits patients by saving a journey but also saves time in waiting for prescriptions in the surgery. We encourage patients to use this service as we feel it benefits all parties and further information can be obtained from your local pharmacy.
