The Scottish Government commissioned Lifeblood, the thrombosis charity, to develop a general information leaflet on DVT, to promote awareness of thrombosis and to increase understanding of its causes, effects and the treatment available.
A Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that forms in one of the deep veins of the leg. Veins are the blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart and deep veins of the leg are below the surface and are not visible but run through the muscles of the legs.
